Dear Children of Eden Auditioners; March 2012

Let There Be” a “Perfect” reason to bring those who love the fine arts together in a momentous “Pursuit of Excellence” as Fountain City Festival presents a “Spark of Creation” in Northwest Ohio! Yes, Children of Eden (music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by John Caird) is an opportunity for all “Generations” to proclaim our show theme “mmm…mmm!” as we combine Messages, Music, and Movement to Make Memorable Moments! Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to be a part of something extraordinary.

The show will be produced by Heather Teegarden, directed by Carol Kurivial, music directed by Jim Sauder, and choreographed by Emily Bird. The show dates are July 26, 27, 28 and 29.

The audition packet is available at the Bryan Chamber of Commerce, 138 S. Lynn ( 9-5 Mon – Fri) It will give you all the information you need in order to have a successful audition, including basic information, a show synopsis, audition narratives, musical selections and dance instructions.

AUDITIONS:

? Friday, April 27—6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 28—9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

(Open ½ hour early to fill out audition papers, rehearse choreography, etc.)

? Wesley United Methodist Church, 903 Center St., Bryan

? CALLBACKS—only for those personally contacted: April 28, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Masonic Temple, 116 N. Lynn St.

? DANCERS—Friday, April 27, from 6 – 9 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, OR Saturday, April 28, at Bryan Masonic Temple (116 North Lynn Street) from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. NOTE: Singing not required, but must learn music to lip sync to songs.

REHEARSALS:

? Regular schedule on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings; occasionally on Friday night or Saturday morning as needed

? Leads will begin rehearsing in May (TBD) on individual and small group basis

? Regular rehearsals begin Monday, June 4

THE CAST:

? Lead parts: Father (God), Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, Seth, Noah, Mama Noah, Japheth, Ham, Shem, Aphra (wife), Aysha (wife), Yonah, Young Cain and Young Abel

? 15 to 30 adult Storytellers (high school aged and beyond…way beyond)

? 8 to 12 child Storytellers who have completed 4th through 8th grade

? 4 to 6 select dancers

? SNAKE ensemble for 5 to 10 people—minimal time commitment required: three to five SNAKE rehearsals, all rehearsals scheduled two weeks prior to the show, and attendance at all performances

AUDITION INFORMATION:

You will be evaluated at the audition on three levels: singing, acting and dancing.

Singing: Accompanist available, or you may bring tape or CD; evaluated on sound quality/pitch, diction, energy and facial expression

? Auditioning for lead—sing one of solos of your desired character (see audition packet)

? Other characters—sing 16 to 20 measures of any song

Acting: Be prepared to act out any of gender/age appropriate selections from the audition packet; memorization of parts not required for audition

Dancing: Everyone, including children will perform a short, relatively simple piece of choreography; tape of choreography available for viewing at audition, you can stay in the viewing room as long as need to become comfortable with the steps

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

We are asking each cast member to purchase his/her own copy of the Children of Eden CD to help learn the music as quickly as possible.

All cast members are required to help with set striking and general clean-up—date TBD.

The packet has been prepared to assure that you have a successful audition. Please read all of the information carefully, familiarize yourself with its contents, feel free to mark it in any way, and bring it with you to the audition for your personal use.
